Ramp Program

Our Ramp Program helps homeowners with mobility challenges by installing exterior wheelchair ramps

Chemung County Habitat for Humanity

We build strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with people and families in need of a decent and affordable home.

Are you or someone you know facing mobility challenges at home? Our Ramp Program helps homeowners with mobility challenges by installing exterior wheelchair ramps, ensuring safe home entry and exit. We’re committed to improving quality of life for those with limited mobility. By providing these ramps, we empower individuals to engage fully in work, education, shopping, and community activities.

Community-led Effort: Our program relies on the commitment and generosity of local volunteers who are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of their neighbors.

  • Custom Solutions: Each ramp is tailored to the specific needs of the homeowner, ensuring a personalized, safe, and effective mobility solution.
  • Collaborative Approach: We believe in working together with homeowners to create a sense of ownership and community involvement.

Start your journey to improved accessibility by completing our online application. This allows our dedicated team to assess your needs and begin planning your custom ramp. Homeowners contribute to material costs based on income, typically ranging from $100 to $1,600 depending on ramp size. Chemung County Habitat for Humanity provides volunteer labor and expertise for planning and construction, creating a partnership to enhance your home’s accessibility.

 Become a Habitat Homeowner

We believe that everyone should have a safe, affordable place to call home. By working with us from beginning to end, we can help you prepare for the various responsibilities of homeownership, including learning about personal finances, mortgages, maintenance and upkeep of homes, and much more.

Qualifications

  • You meet income guidelines, save money toward a down payment, and prepare to pay an affordable mortgage.
  • Homeowners must be able to pay an affordable mortgage. Habitat makes a reasonable effort to ensure that an affordable mortgage does not exceed 30% of the homeowner’s gross monthly income.
  • Once selected, Habitat homeowners must partner with us throughout the process. This partnership includes performing “sweat equity,” or helping to build their own home or the homes of others in our homeownership program. Partner families are required to attend a first-time homebuyer class.

The Zamora Family

Listen to Zamantha’s story about achieving homeownership for her family through Chemung County Habitat for Humanity.

“This process has taught me patience and persistence, because when I was just about to give up, I was approved for this home. I am grateful to Habitat, my sponsors and all that were involved with this process and for giving me this opportunity.”
