Volunteer

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

We offer several opportunities to build or repair homes with families, in addition to volunteer opportunities at your local Habitat office. You can even invite your friends and family to join us.

By volunteering with your local Habitat for Humanity, you can be a part of the change you want to see in your community.

Construction

Join us at our build site for a day of rehabilitating homes. We build year round, weather permitting of course, and welcome volunteers of all skills and backgrounds. We only ask that you come to the site ready and willing to listen, learn, and work.

Our supervisors are poised and ready to teach and train, and we want your volunteer experience to be as rewarding and productive for you as it is for us. Construction tasks include framing, hanging drywall, painting, laying flooring, landscaping, plumbing, electrical work and even installing the kitchen sink. Experience first-hand how we put donations to work and how you can be a part of the affordable housing solution.

Non-Construction

Volunteer in our office by preparing mailings, writing thank-you notes, or entering data into our computer system. Volunteer at one of our fundraising events, such as bowling night. Volunteer at our special builds and support our construction volunteers by greeting other volunteers when they arrive to sign-in, and by picking up and distributing lunches. Help set up and tend information tables at community events throughout Chemung County.

Committees

Become a committee member and learn how Habitat for Humanity helps families become homeowners. Join our Family Selection Committee, Resource Development Committee or our Board of Directors.

Volunteer Groups

Is community service or team building part of your organization’s goals? Consider volunteering as a group at a Habitat home build site. There is much work to be done, and no matter the size of your organization, we’re certain that there is something you can contribute to the Habitat vision of providing safe, affordable housing for Chemung County families.

Many local companies have scheduled corporate team build days with Chemung County Habitat for Humanity. Church and college groups have used volunteering with us as a great community outreach project.

To get your group of volunteers involved at a Habitat build site, contact our office at (607) 734-1361or email [email protected].
